Reasons Why Miriam Defensor-Santiago Was Least Voted For Philippine Presidency

<span style="text-align: justify;">The Philippine National Election is almost in near finish. 53+ million voters had already casted their votes to elect the new government officials that will serve them for the next three or six years (In case of the president, the vice president, and the 12 senators). So far in the unofficial tallies as of this moment, it is the Mayor of Davao City, Rodrigo Duterte that leads the presidency while the Representative of the Third District of Camarines Sur, Leni Robredo leads the vice presidency with a small margin against Senator Bongbong Marcos.</span></div>

As a voter myself, I also casted my votes on the precint where I am voting, somewhere here in Makati. I voted, of course, Rodrigo Duterte and Bongbong Marcos as my vice president. After I vote, I just spent the day waiting for the election results and the results shown on TV were.</div>

I am satisfied of the result that was shown on the television but it also made me notice that Miriam Defensor-Santiago is on the second to the last rank. As I researched her <a href="http://miriam.com.ph/aboutmiriam.php" target="_blank">background</a>, on all the presidential candidates, she is the most qualified. Rodrigo Duterte comes second to her. The election result that was shown had made me conclude these reasons on why Miriam was least voted for Philippine Presidency.</div>

<li><b>She has the least exposure.</b><br />Yes, indeed she has the least exposure on the campaigns. In my observations from the start of the campaign, I didn't even managed to see a "Miriam for President" TV campaign. Same on the radios. I didn't even managed to hear such campaign. What she did was just show herself on the debates and explain her platform on different issues in our country and also, she appeared as guest speakers of some conferences and some school-related activities. Another thing is that she used the social media and its youth users to campaign for her, thus made her the least (None at all rather) spender on the presidential campaign.</li>
<li><b>She has cancer, she'll die in office.</b><br />This reason was made out by those persons who didn't voted her. She was not voted because she is sick? On all the reasons I listed here, this is the most unreasonable. As I can see on the personality of Miriam, I know she can overcome anything in order to serve the country and cancer is just a little problem for her. Yes, we care for her that's why we didn't voted for her but she cares a lot for the Filipino people that she decided to run for presidency even if her body is infested by cancer.</li>
<li><b>She picked Bongbong Marcos as her tandem for vice president.</b><br />I think everyone (Especially the Martial Law victims) was shocked when she announced that she will go a collaboration with Bongbong Marcos on the campaign going to the Malacañang. I know she had the valid reasons for picking him as her tandem and no one would even attempt to question it to her. Bongbong Marcos was even her student way back, but as we all know, Marcoses (The family itself) had created a very negative hype to the Filipinos because of the Martial Law, the assasination of Ninoy Aquino, as well as the ill-gotten wealth of their family. Knowing that she will have a tandem with a Marcos, it became a large factor that made her the least to be voted in the elections.</li>
<li><b>The Filipino Perfectionist Stereotype</b><br /><b>(This part is my own opinion already)</b> We all know that Miriam is a very intelligent person, No one even managed to go mudslinging with Miriam because of her intelligence. This intelligence she possess is one of the reasons why she is the most qualified to run the Philippines as its president, but this intelligence is also the reason as well why she is the least voted in the elections. Filipinos had stereotyped her as a perfectionist, and will not listen to the Filipino people if they had ideas that are helpful but not perfect. Most of the Filipinos are poor and somehow, want themselves to have a comfortable life under a good-governing president. These Filipinos feel that Miriam deserves to be president but because of stereotyping, they feel that if she wins, she'll just ignore their ideas for a comfortable life because it was not perfect or good after all, and it will not give a win-win result. Miriam is known to decisions that favors both parties a win-win result but with an attitude of Filipinos "that wants to gain the upperhand at all times", I think that made Filipinos stererotype the highly intelligent Miriam.</li>

She had already ran for presidency for three times on different ocassions, She was defeated by Fidel V. Ramos in 1992, by Joseph Estrada in 1998, and this 2016 by Rodrigo Duterte. Because of the results of the past presidential elections she participated in, she was dubbed in social media <i>"The Best Philippine President We Never Had"</i>.</div>

So far, I don't have a credible source if she will retire in politics after this. Somehow, she had long served the Philippines already for so long.</div>

The Word of the Year is Selfie

<p>The word "Selfie" was declared Word of the Year among other 12 nominees at the recently held Sawikaan 2014.<br />

Selfie was also the Oxford Word of the Year for 2013, the term means a self portrait photograph typically taken  with a hand-held digital camera or a smartphone. Selfies are often shared on different social networking sites such as Facebook and Instagram.<br />

UPDATE: Celine Dion Live in Manila, CANCELLED

The best-selling Canadian singer and award winning pop superstar Celine Dion that is expected to have a mini tour here in Asia, scheduled in October and November of this year had cancelled all of the scheduled dates of her tour, including the November 29 performance at SM Mall of Asia Arena.<br />

According to the official website of the Canadian singer, she had cancelled all the schedules of her Asian tour to give time to take care of her husband, Rene Angelil, who had been removed of a cancerous tumor last December 2013. Official statement of Celine Dion says:</div>

I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband’s healing, and to do so, it’s important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children.</blockquote>

A Wedding That Will Move You

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit; line-height: 17px;">Early this year, Rowden Go Pangcoga and Leizl is about to get married on July 8, 2014, Rowden's 30th birthday. Together with their adorable 2-year-old daughter, they already had a perfect family.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br style="background-color: white; line-height: 17px;" /><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 17px;">Then a twist of fate, Rowden got diagnosed with stage IV liver cancer in late May. His last request was to marry his one true love. With just 12 hours of preparattion, his dream was fulfilled. Because Rodwen is unable to go out of the hospital, they brought the church to him.</span><br style="background-color: white; line-height: 17px;" /><br style="background-color: white; line-height: 17px;" /><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 17px;">Rowden Go, at the age of 29-years-old, passed away on June 11, 2014. <b>1. Show up for the first day of Class - </b>Some Professors might change your class schedule due to conflicts and it often happen on the first week or on the first day. It may be a change in time schedule or room number, so to avoid more hassle in your part it is important to attend your first day.<b> </b>Well I think most of you guys will attend your first day of class, not only because you are excited but you don't want to feel "OP" on the second day when everyone in your class have already their own friends or group right?<br />

2.<b>Don't forget to bring the college student's best friend -</b> The yellow paper, trust me you will need it until the last day. for what? writing stuffs. Don't be parasite to your other classmates, showing how irresponsible and incompetent you are will give you a hard time finding group mates in projects and in your thesis. Remember first impression lasts, at least show you are good at something. Being responsible.<br />

<b>3. Don't Buy the Books - </b>until after the first day, Some professors will not require you anymore to buy a book for their subject if they are not the author of that book, and some are so good in lecturing that all you need to do is to listen and to take down notes.<br />
<br />
<b>4. Take down notes - </b>even if you have "photographic memory", it's still important to take down all the requirements and lectures of your professor. It is much easier to review your notes than reading the topic on the net or on your textbook.<br />
<br />
<b>5. Due tomorrow, Do tomorrow is not cool - </b>Trust me, I've seen this, I've done this, you don't want this. start the work on  the day your project or research gave to you, I'm not saying to rush things up but start early, in that way, you will have more time to analyze and revise your work. and once you finish early you will have more time to relax and enjoy you free time.<br />

<b>And last thing, Enjoy - </b>The most exciting part in the first day for college freshmen is everything. Everything is new, the atmosphere, the people, the place. Be friendly, explore your campus and the city, try new things , enjoy your first day, because trust me you will need it.<br />

The resort is located 1,200ft above sea level in the foot of Mount Kanlaon and serves as a gateway of the Mount Kanlaon Natural Park. The resort was originally built as a small bathhouse and garden by a Japanese named Kokichi Paul Ishiwata in 1927. It is accessible to Bacolod City by a 35-minute drive passing through the small town of Murcia before going up to the resort in the mountain.  The resort is known to its cold weather (due to the fact that it's on the mountainsides), hot springs, sulfur formations, and its cut through by a mountain stream coming from the seven waterfalls in Mount Kanlaon that leads to the lagoon in the center of the resort where visitors can go boating.</div>

Mambukal also has its swimming pools dedicated for kids and adults alike. Included in their pool line up is their dipping pool where people can take a bath on the hot water spring of Mount Kanlaon. Aside from the swimming pools, there are also different activities in the resort like wall climbing, slide for life, and a visit to the orchid gardens of the resort (Known by locals as the Butterfly Garden). The final activity that can be done in the resort is the trek to the seven falls. Visitors can hire local guides which will guide them to a trek going upwards to pass the seven falls of the Mount Kanlaon. This trek is quite dangerous and tough especially in rainy days. There are previous records of deaths in this trek when the resort is still not yet fully developed at the past so visitors are strictly enforced to follow the guide's instructions and the signs on the mountain trail. Despite of the reputation of the trek to the seven falls, its a must try for first timer visitors of Mambukal.</div>

Travelers who wish to visit Skyranch might need be required to be ready for some large amounts of money before entering because the entrance fee in the park is priced at P100. That's the price for the entrance only, and the fees for the rides (including a mini roller coaster, a Viking ship, and a ferris wheel called the SkyEye) and activities (zipline and horseback riding) on the park is still not included on that entrance fee. The park has a few rides to provide the visitors but the main attraction of the park is their super big ferris wheel called the Sky Eye. It is the biggest and tallest ferris wheel in the Philippines because of the location where it stands, on the edge of the cliff looking the Taal Volcano. You may never find your Skyranch experience complete without riding the ferris wheel because it will give the visitors a better view of the Taal Lake, the overlooking provinces of Laguna and Batangas, as well as the far view of Laguna De Bay and Manila Bay (Provided that the city is not foggy).  Be advised that riding the SkyEye, as well as the other rides and activities has its respective ticket fees as seen in the picture. The price for horseback ride (not shown in the photo provided) is priced at P250/30 minutes and the zipline at P250.</div>

The only comment I can say to the administration of Skyranch is the individual fee of the entrance to the park. I (or also, other people who went to Skyranch already) can say that it is more convenient that it will be better that the entrance to the park will also cover the rides and the activities inside. Still, I say that this place in Tagaytay City is a must visit and pretty sure, will make anyone's Tagaytay experience complete.</div>

Some people had an answer that this was a "gimmick" by John Prats, whose in a relationship with Isabel Oli as of this time. Isabel Oli's real name was Olivia Daytia and the date 21414 is John Prat's birthday, therefore bringing a conclusion that John Prats proposes to Isabel Oli on the mentioned date of  February 14, 2014.</div>

The only nearest answer to the question of "who is Olivia and who is proposing to her", though has no brief confirmation, is about a fictional character Olivia Pope and her would-be fiance, Fitzgerald Grant. Both people are fictional characters of the TV show Scandal, which will air on February 27. Scandal tells of the story of Pope, a crisis manager of the consulting firm Olivia Pope and Associates whose clients are high profile politicians including the President of the United States Fitzgerald Grant III. The theorized answer to the mystery behind the billboards was from Bella Padilla's tweet about the new TV show.<br />

Few days after Valentines Day, another related billboard to the "Olivia, will you marry me?" billboards had spawned and it gave the confirmed answer to the mystery and it is confirmed now that it is an advertisement of one of condominiums of Empire East Land Holdings Inc., Pioneer Woodlands, which is located in Mandaluyong. Addition to the billboard is the 21414 numbers is actually the weekly price of a unit on the condominium. "For as low as P2141.4/week", as printed on the new billboard.<br />

The mystery behind the billboard is now solved, and the advertisement campaign actually had sparked the curiosity of Filipinos and thereby, created a conclusion to the Empire East Land Holdings Inc. marketing strategy, a genius one. So the theory behind John Prat's proposal to Isabel Oli, and the TV show Scandal, being related to the billboards is not the answer behind the infamous billboards.</div></p>

bottled water and other drinks while kids were roaming around the car-free
Commonwealth Avenue looking for coins dropped by passing vehicles the previous
days.</span><br />

<span class="textexposedshow">What set the scene apart from an ordinary day along
the busy highway: container trucks and barbed wires were in place, signs of of
things to come.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">On the other side of the fenced area, policemen
were lying on the road resting. Some of them had been posted there since two
days ago.</span><br />

<span class="textexposedshow"><b>Chaos</b></span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">At around 11:00 a.m., a big group of activists
arrived near Ever Gotesco Mall. The protests began.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">Activists hurriedly removed the metal fence on the
island, allowing them to bypass the police barricade. Anti-riot policemen from
the other side of the road ran and tried to block them, but the protesters
pushed through.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">There was one policeman who flashed a peace sign to
the protesters, asking them to remain calm. He urged activists to hold a
dialogue instead of resorting to violence.</span><br />

protesters away. On the other, the activists told the first line of security
that they wanted to go near Batasan Complex.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">Rocks were thrown and people were hit with
truncheons and shields. Most of the members of the media stayed on top of a
dump truck to give them a good vantage view, while some remained in the middle,
sandwiched by the clashing protesters and policemen.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow"><b>Crying cop</b></span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">It was a long and tiring dispersal. According to
reports, at least 50 were injured in the clashes.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">But amid the chaos, my lens caught a scene I
thought I would never see during a dispersal.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">A foreign protester was berating a policeman asking
him why they were hurting the people. “Why are you doing this to us? Why are
you hurting us?!”</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">The officer simply stood his ground. “I am a
policeman, I’m just doing my job.”</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">He said his job was to maintain peace and order. He
said they were given orders and they had to follow.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">Suddenly, the police officer cried.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">The foreigner kept on shouting at this officer. But
the policeman couldn't stop crying. He was trying to hold his tears, but he
couldn't.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">Another round of clashes erupted. The policemen
were still trying to push and shove the protesters away. The crying cop simply
stood his ground. He was still holding his shield firmly. Still weeping,
sobbing.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">Later, I approached the policeman and asked him his
name. He said he is Joselito. A quick glance at his name tag revealed he is
policeman Joselito Sevilla.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">He said he is a private, and his uniform patch
showed he is from the Marikina police unit.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">Asked why he cried, he only said: "Sa gutom at
pagod. Walang tulog. Walang pahinga. Dalawang araw na kami naka-deploy dito.
Tapos ganito, nagkakagulo."</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">It was also PO1 Sevilla's first dispersal
assignment.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow"><b>Realization</b></span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">I finally understood him. No sleep. No food. No
rest. And he came face-to-face with protesters whose goal was to break the
police line.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">Sevilla was physically and emotionally exhausted.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">But he was following orders. He was just doing his
job not to let protesters get near the Batasan Complex.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">He did not hurt the protesters, even if some were
already throwing rocks and hitting cops with wooden sticks.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">Finally, some protesters noticed him, too: a
policeman, whom they expected to retaliate, was in front of them, holding his
shield firmly, weeping.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">And then they started to console PO1 Sevilla. A man
held his shoulder, telling him that everything would be alright. Another woman
comforted him, as she tried to give him a handkerchief to wipe his tears.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">Amid the chaos, these two protesters hugged PO1 Sevilla
and assured him everything would be fine.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">Seconds later, other policemen noticed what was
happening and they moved PO1 Sevilla away from the front lines, away from the
activists.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">I was caught in the middle and I couldn't find him
anymore. He was gone.</span><br />
<br />
<b><span class="textexposedshow">Show of strength</span></b>
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">State forces, especially policemen, are expected to
be firm and not show emotions. What PO1 Sevilla did was not what was expected
of him.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">Did the other anti-riot policemen remove him from
the front line?</span><br />
<br />
<span class="textexposedshow">This incident only shows we are all human beings.
It is not bad to show weakness by crying; that we can still do our job, stand
our ground, but still be peaceful and not hurt another human being; that two
opposing groups can still show compassion as shown by the man and woman who hugged
PO1 Sevilla.</span></span></span></span></blockquote>

Things to remember on Election Day

<p>Here are the things to remember this coming Election day given by the Commission on Election.<br />

<li>Look for your name in the list of voters posted on every polling place</li>
<li>After finding your name, look for a Board of Election Inspector (BEI) and tell them your name.</li>
<li>Sign in at Voter's Computerized List with Voting Records</li>
<li>Show your forefinger to BEI to show that you still have no indelible ink  and have not voted yet.</li>
<li>Get the Official Ballot and a marker pen from BEI</li>
<li>Shave the Oval across your desired candidate. </li>
<li>After voting, Insert your ballot into the PCOS machine and wait for the message on the screen that says "CONGRATULATIONS, YOUR VOTE HAS BEEN REGISTERED."</li>
<li>Proceed to BEI to put an indelible ink on your forefinger.</li>
</ul>

That's it! But Please, Vote Wisely! </div>

<li>Don't vote candidates because of their surnames, being a good leader is not a generic trait. </li>
<li>Enough with the promises of politician that they can end poverty, vote those with clear platforms and no bad record. </li>
<li>Don't base your choice on surveys, Vote who you think is qualified.</li>
<li>Vote for candidates who already prove themselves base on their track record and credibility.</li>
</ul>
